Cincinnati Bengals Assistant head coach / Special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons returns to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics to talk Bengals special teams as the countdown has begun to the opening of training camp as the Bengals look to win another AFC North title and play for a chance to advance to another Super Bowl.
Over the past several seasons, Simmons didn’t have to think much about who would be punting for the Bengals. However, Kevin Huber will have a true challenger in camp in another local Cincinnati kid, Drue Chrisman, who prepped at La Salle High School before a standout career at Ohio State.
Also discussed was the success of Evan McPherson and what fans should expect from the standout kicker in his second season and several other Bengals who played critical roles on special teams a year ago.
Part Two | Cincinnati Bengals Special Teams with Coach Darrin Simmons
In Part Two with Cincinnati Bengals Assistant head coach / Special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics, we continue talking Bengals special team battles as we’re days away from the start of training camp.
In Part One ( https://youtu.be/TWr7ZBVoK-M ), we talked about the battle at punter between Kevin Huber and Drue Chrisman. However, that is not the only battle fans will witness during the preseason, as longtime long snapper Clark Harris will be challenged by rookie Cal Adomitis, a college free agent signing out of the University of Pittsburgh.
Other battles include who will return punts and kicks this season, how the three rookie draft picks, Dax Hill, Cam Taylor-Britt, and Tycen Anderson, could impact the special team’s attack, and whose job could be on the line.
