ARCHIVED FROM FOOTBALL IN OHIO
For Kettering (Ohio) Fairmont head coach David Miller, how his team does against rival Archbishop Alter usually gives him a solid idea of his team’s direction for the season.
However, last season saw the game canceled as the Greater Western Ohio Conference only played games against conference opponents.
Thursday night, Miller left Roush Stadium feeling optimistic about the early direction of his squad as they knocked off rival Alter 16-7, a feat they’d not accomplished since the 2018 season in their season opener.
The Alter Knights entered with top recruits CJ Hicks (Ohio State), Derrick Shepard (Cincinnati), Christian Kirenga (Illinois State), and Chase Stone.
Miller didn’t change his ways and saw senior quarterback Male’k Hillon control the offense (3-3 for 57 yards, 1 TD) and Drew Baker being the offensive workhorse carrying the ball 33 times for 147 yards.
In the fourth quarter, up 9-7 over the Knights, Miller gambled on 4th and two on the five-yard line and watched Hillon hit junior Dalton Gustwiler for the touchdown and a 16-7 win over their rival.
After the game, Football In Ohio spoke with Coach Miller about his team’s performance.
