When you talk about Ohio high school football, the name of Archbishop Moeller is one of a handful of often discussed programs. With nine state championships in the playoff era, the Crusaders are expected to fight for and win Greater Catholic League and OHSAA Division One titles.
In 2020, head coach Mark Elder took over the Crusaders program after a long and successful college coaching career. However, the previous five seasons have seen Moeller struggle to a 21-31 record, with many feeling the days of glory may have passed the tradition-rich program.
After struggling in year one, Elder and his coaching staff turned things around to post an 11-4 record, and this season, Moeller is 6-0 and a win away from winning a GCL title.
While there are still plenty of games to be played, many in Ohio feel the Crusaders are the team to watch when the OHSAA tournament starts the last week of October.
Friday night, Moeller battled GCL rival La Salle in the First Star Logistics Game of the Week, and DBHuddle spoke with Coach Elder about his team’s impressive 47-14 win over the Lancers.
