Since 2010 the Best of the Midwest Combine held each February in Indianapolis has allowed many high school football players to expand their game and show their talents.
Over the years, several have gone from unknown high school prospects to college and even NFL standouts.
One of the top performers at this year’s event was Springfield (Ohio) high school standout Shawn Thigpen, a talented 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver who holds several scholarship offers.
Thigpen first came to our attention during his sophomore season when we did live evaluations between Springfield and Clayton (Ohio) Northmont with five receptions for 83-yards.
Last season Thigpen became a more significant threat for the Wildcats with 54 receptions for 780-yards and five touchdowns, helping the Wildcats reach the OHSAA.
Division One State Championship game. In that match-up against Lakewood St. Edward, Thigpen exploded for ten receptions for 105-yards as the Wildcats came up short 23-13 against one of the top prep programs in the country.
Monday, Thigpen continued to impress with an MVP performance against several top defensive prospects at the Best of the Midwest. Football In Ohio spoke with the talented receiver about his day, recruiting, and goals for his senior season.
Thigpen is a long-framed receiver who shows above-average speed. The combination of his length and athletic ability causes match-up problems for defensive backs. Does a solid job of catching the ball away from his body, can high point the ball or go low to make a catch. Must continue to add bulk to his frame. – Dave Berk – Recruiting Analyst
