One of the biggest questions for Cincinnati (Ohio) Elder head coach Doug Ramsey was who would replace two-year starting quarterback Ben Hambleton who graduated after throwing for 4,797 yards and 42 touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Friday night, Ramsey looks to have found his answer as another Ben has stepped forward in senior Ben Schoster. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound signal caller entered the Panthers match-up against Covington (KY) Catholic high school with 12 passes attempted during his high school career.
Schoster passed his career attempts against the Colonels, going 15-of-17 for 165-yards and a touchdown while adding two touchdowns on 52 yards rushing in the Panthers 42-21 win to open the OHSAA football season.
While the road ahead will surely find several bumps in the schedule for Schoster and the Panthers, a solid first career start is now out of the way, with teammates feeling they found their quarterback is a positive step for the Panthers to have a successful regular season and goals of making a deep run in the playoffs.
After the game, DBHuddle spoke with Schoster about his first career start and more in this exclusive one-on-one interview presented by First Star Logistics.
